Record numbers declare exhibitions a success!

ORGANISERS have declared the CeMAT Asia, PTC Asia and CeBIT Asia events at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre an unqualified success, with nearly 50,000 business visitors from all over the world attending the shows over four days.

Announcing the completion of the three events, Deutsche Messe AG and its subsidiary Hannover Fairs Shanghai, together with their Chinese partners said 49,158 trade visitors from all continents – including 32 international delegations from USA, Australia, Thailand and Japan among others – had attended the events.

The showa attracted 1,987 exhibitors from all regions across the world, filling 100,000 square metres of space, displaying the latest power transmission and control equipment, materials handling and logistics systems, and ICT technologies.

NCP to launch secure access for Nokia

German secure communications company, NCP plan to launch new technology offering secure entry for Nokia Symbion operating systems onto the global market, In addition to their Open Source operation system currently offered.

The company, which provide secure access for PCs, smart phones, PDAs and similar products and who are one of the few vendors that support Windows Vista, made its debut at CeBIT Asia this year.

Mr Simon Ford, International Sales Director for NCP says the successful European company is currently embarking on a program to increase its global market presence.

Californians sample the Asia market at CeBIT

California-based PC standards organisation PCMCIA offered rave reviews of their first venture into China in the final days of CeBIT Asia 2007.

The organisation is comprised of 140 companies in the PC industry. They have been very active in Taiwan over the last three or four years.

PCMCIA Executive Director, Mr Patrick Maher says the company hope to expand their business contacts in response to the ever-growing activity in the Chinese PC manufacturing market.

Go Global cruises to improved technology exchange

Delegates to the ‘Go Global’ international IT entrepreneur seminar at CeBIT Asia were last night treated to a dinner cruise on the Huangpu river, presenting perhaps the best technology networking opportunity of the four-day event.

Hosted by Go Global seminar sponsors, including Chinese online directory C114.net, the Shanghai Informatization Youth Talent Association, and Hannover Fairs Shanghai, the cruise for about 150 delegates took in the lights and sights of the city’s famous Bund and Pudong riverside areas.

Go Global and its dinner cruise aftermath featured official delegations from Australia, Germany, the United States, as well as their Chinese hosts.

Jiaotong Uni seeking New Media partners

RENOWNED science institution Shanghai Jiaotong University has established an institute focused on New Media issues and is seeking partnerships with overseas universities for student and research exchanges.

 

The University’s Institute of Global Communications Research Dr Pearl Wang Haoqing said the New Media initiative allowed for a natural integration of Jiaotong’s science and technology expertise and its newly established arts focus.

 

Dr Wang, who hosted the “Go Global” IT entrepreneur international seminar at CeBIT Asia, had returned to academic life after four years in the ICT industry as chief editor of one of China’s top electronic industry trade newspapers.

Lt. Gov. Garamendi: Bush wasted 10 years!

CALIFORNIAN Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi has accused the Bush administration of ten wasted years of inactivity on important climate change issues.

A long-standing environmental lobbyist, Mr Garamendi, made these comments in response to questioning about the US’s standing amongst the worst global polluters at a cocktail event last night.

“We will get a new president and I believe that new president will be a democrat … (then) we will get the right policies in place and California will once again lead the way. 15 months and counting!", he says.

CeMAT, PTC industrial events to grow in 2008

ORGANISERS of the huge CeMAT Asia and PTC Asia industrial technology events expect to fill a further two exhibition halls next year, and the two shows continue to expand with the China economy.

Deutsche Messe AG Events Director Alexander Kuehnel said the company aimed to fill the two exhibition halls currently under construction at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, in addition to the nine halls already filled by CeMAT Asia, PTC Asia and CeBIT Asia.

Mr Kuehnel said the CeMAT materials handling and logistics show and PTC power transmission and control events were the biggest held in China.

Shanghai World Expo 2010 a boost for ICT

CONSTRUCTION of Shanghai’s information infrastructure had reached advanced international standards and IT had grown to become a “First Pillar” industry, according to a leading city expert.

Shanghai Municipal Informatization Commission deputy-director Liu Jian said by 2010 – when Shanghai hosts the giant World Expo – the city “will basically reach the main indicators” for a modern technology-based city.

Speaking at the Go Global Shanghai IT Youth Entrepreneur international seminar onsite at the CeBIT Asia exhibition, Mr Liu said growth in the IT industry continue to outstrip the already fast growing broader economy.
