Record numbers declare exhibitions a success!

ORGANISERS have declared the CeMAT Asia, PTC Asia and CeBIT Asia events at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre an unqualified success, with nearly 50,000 business visitors from all over the world attending the shows over four days.

Announcing the completion of the three events, Deutsche Messe AG and its subsidiary Hannover Fairs Shanghai, together with their Chinese partners said 49,158 trade visitors from all continents – including 32 international delegations from USA, Australia, Thailand and Japan among others – had attended the events.

The showa attracted 1,987 exhibitors from all regions across the world, filling 100,000 square metres of space, displaying the latest power transmission and control equipment, materials handling and logistics systems, and ICT technologies.

PTC Asia was the biggest of the events, attracting 1,399 exhibitors from 27 countries, making it the second largest power transmission and control exhibition worldwide after the Motion, Drive & Automation event in Hannover, Germany.

The PTC event included official participation backed by governments from Germany, Italy, USA, Britain, France, Spain, Korea and China. A full range of top brands displayed products and services including hydraulic experts Bosch Rexroth, Eaton, Stauff, HAWE, Gates, EMB, SOFIMA and RYCO, pneumatic magnates Festo, SMC, CKD and KOGANEI, and sealing leaders NOK and Trelleborg.

Chinese domestic demands for hydraulic, liquid power, pneumatic and sealing products are forecast to rise to about US$6 billion by 2010. A broad variety of Chinese companies also exhibited, including growing brands such as Huade, Shanghai Electric, Yuci, Jincheng and Liyuan.

The CeMAT Asia materials handling and logistics show also attracted strong international appeal, drawing 350 exhibitors from 22 countries. The show featured the top ten forklift manufacturers – including Linde, Toyota, Jungheinrich and Komatsu – and the top four crane makers, KONE, DEMAG, STAHL and ABUS.

Focusing on digital life and e-commerce, the CeBIT Asia show attracted 238 exhibitors, filling a total display area of 8,000 square metres.

Deutsche Messe events director Alexander Kuehnel said the numbers spoke for themselves, declaring the events an excellent result.

“You can see me smiling,” Mr Kuehnel said. “Everything is fantastic. We had close to 2,000 exhibitors, close to 100,000 square metres gross space for the three shows, so it is fantastic. I am very, very happy.”

“We have got a lot of very good feedback from our exhibitors regarding the show. Normally you have to go out among the exhibitors to collect good testimonials. But this year they have been coming to us by themselves, so that is also very good.”

“But this success is not a reason to be laid back and feel too good. We have to continue to find new concepts to bring visitors and exhibitors back to the halls (in our planning fpor next year,” he said.

Mr Kuehnel said the company was already considering plans for next year to include an extended conference program, saying the China market was now embracing such concurrent events.

“When we first started here in Shanghai six years ago, we ran only a few conferences and there weren’t a lot of attendees,” he said.

“Now, after six years we are seeing the numbers who are coming to these conferences growing at a faster rate than our overall (exhibition) visitor numbers. So together with our partners’ and our own ideas, we will be running more and more conferences.”
