Blended Learning targets education sector

CUSTOM training development and delivery specialist Blended Learning is exhibiting at CeBIT Asia for the first time as part of its first foray outside of its Australian home market, and the company is bullish about its prospects in China.

Blended Learning director Ian Read said its strength in the Australian public sector and its unique relationship with the Australian National University had given the company credibility with interested Chinese contacts.

The company includes the Department of Defence, Australian Taxation Office and Health Insurance Commission among its Australian Federal Government customers, and RailCorp, Sydney Ferries and the Road & Traffic Authority as NSW Government customers.

Among private sector clients are Media Monitors, Bayer pharmaceuticals, Venture Corp, and Cochlear.

“The name blended learning came about because of the blend of what we do customised training development and delivery in the vocational education sector,” Mr Read said.

“Our products vary, depending on who the client is, starting with vocational education and training all the way through from Certificate 1 to Advanced Diploma level,” he said.

The company has a special focus on the ICT sector, and runs training development and delivery of ICT vocational courses from Certificate 1 to Advanced Diploma.

Mr Read said though this was the company’s first foray outside of its home market in Australia, it had always planned for international expansion. The company chose China because it was attracted by the market numbers, and because of the emphasis placed on education and training in China.

“The Australian market is fine and is looking after itself,” Mr Read said. “But part of our business plan – and we named the company Blended Learning for a reason – was always to make it an international business.”

The company is seeking to align itself with a Chinese company before eventually building a branded Blended Learning presence in China.

Mr Read said he had made a lot of contacts at CeBIT Asia, and intended to return to China in March next year as a follow-up, and then possibly to return to CeBIT Asia again in 2008 as part of the Australian delegation.
